The story
About Nick
A Derby DJ shaped by the dancefloor, vinyl culture and the resident’s responsibility to build a night properly.
Progress, Derby
A resident’s instinct.
Nick Hopewell came through the celebrated Progress era in Derby in the late 1990's through to the mid 2000's, a time when the night was voted best in the UK. Developing a style built on flow rather than fashion: progressive house, trance, melody and momentum.
Nick is now a current resident for Mr Shaw’s hugely successful Reminisce events—a joyful nod to the 1990s house scene and the music, atmosphere and shared memories that made it special.
The archive photographs tell one chapter. Today’s sets continue the same thread—combining carefully chosen classics with newer music and reading the room from the first record to the last.
Alongside solo appearances, Nick is developing vinyl-led ideas including Original Residents, celebrating the people and records that defined an important period in UK club culture.
